Rover.com Interview & Giveaway!

image00

There are so many amazing things that are available for dog owners today. Like the FitBark, doggie mansions, self-feeders, and one of my new favorites, Rover.com.

If you are like me, then you do not trust dog kennels. They seriously seem so scary to me and I swore that I would never let Ralph even come near to one. One of the problems that arises with that though is if I need to go somewhere sans Ralph, I find myself in a sticky situation. (Thank goodness my mom loves Ralph as much as I do, haha ;) )

But for people who don’t have a mom like me or are tired of calling their rolodex of friends and family members to see who can watch their furry companion when they have to go away, this is where Rover.com comes in.

Rover.com is an online community that was created for dog owners to find dog sitters to watch your dog in-home. The sitters are vetted by the Rover.com team, who are very selective of who they pick, so your furbaby is left in good hands while you are gone. All transactions are done on the Rover.com website as well, so it’s super easy and safe. Not to mention they have almost 200,000 users now – with over 25,000 active sitters nationwide!

They also have this super cool app, so whenever you are away your sitter can take pictures and put this adorable little music video together so you can see all the fun your dog had while you were gone.

They have seriously thought of everything to make sure your pet is having a blast and being loved even when you are away from home, it’s awesome.

I was actually able to talk to Aaron Easterly the CEO of Rover.com recently about what it is that Rover.com is doing, what they plan to do, and we talked about his adorable Pomeranian Carmel, who gets to go to work with him almost every day.

Aaron told me that the idea of Rover.com came about when the founder Greg Gottesman had a bad experience at a “doggie resort”. His dog Ruby came home sick and he overall felt nickeled and dime by them and through all that, the idea of Rover.com was born.

Aaron actually told me that almost 90% of dog owners don’t use dog kennels or resorts either, so I’m glad to know I’m not the only pet owner who doesn’t. He also told me that Petco recently made an investment in Rover.com, so it’s pretty safe to say they are only going to get better.

Aaron also told me about some of the things that Rover.com is doing/wanting to do to expand. Like offering more services like grooming and even making it possible for cats to get the same services of dogs. Going international and much, much more.  Ralph and I can’t wait to see Rover.com continue to grow.

Thank you so much to Aaron and the rest of the Rover.com staff for being so nice and helpful to Ralph and I. They are seriously some of the coolest people ever. So cool, they are even sponsoring a giveaway for you guys where you can win a $25 giftcard to Rover.com to try for yourself and a bunch of other fun goodies for your dog!

All you have to do is enter through the Raffle copter below and 2 winners will be selected!

Doggy In Wonderland First Impression & Giveaway!

It’s no secret that I love to shop for Ralph. I especially love finding cute little boutiques, because they always have some of the coolest things for dogs.

Recently we found out about Doggy In Wonderland on Twitter and it is pretty much what it claims to be. A wonderland for dog goodies. They seriously have so many awesome things. They even have an iBone Dog Bed, which is perfect for all those tech lovin’ dogs out there. It has to be one of the coolest dog beds I have ever seen.

Doggy In Wonderland was actually nice enough to actually send Ralph some goodies in the mail! They sent him the Salsa Dog Toy and an adorable Monkey Hoodie Sweater! (Which is so fitting because Ralph is my little monkey.) And I think Ralph was actually more excited about getting a sweater at first!

He’s so silly sometimes, lol!

The Experience/Service:

I have to say that the customer service at this store is A++, the items came to us in the mail in like 3 or 4 days? I can’t remember the exact amount of time, but it was super quick and they kept me updated on the process of the videos and made sure that the items got to me safely and were correct. Which I thought was really nice of them.

Doggy In Wonderland also had both of the items all wrapped up nicely when we received them, which I know isn’t really that big a deal, but to me it was, because it shows that they really go the extra mile. And I love whenever companies do that!

The Goodies:

So the toy that they sent us, Ralph has gone crazy over. It has become his favorite toy and he would not stop playing with it all weekend long. Since pictures would not really do it justice, I took two videos below to show Ralph playing with The Salsa.

As for the sweater, it is literally the cutest thing in the world and like I said, at first Ralph was more excited about getting a sweater! He loves to wear them in the winter so it was funny to see him jumping all over me so I would put it on him when it came, even though it is still on the hot side where we live.

Ralph really is not the most photogenic dog, but I was able to snap a few shots of him in the sweater.

The sweater is a really high quality sweater and I know that it is going to be something that will last for a long time and keep Ralph warm when it gets cold  here. The thing that I also liked about the sweater was the fact that I was easily able to put Ralph’s harness over it as well. Which is perfect, because I can keep his sweater on when he goes out to potty and such.

Overall Opinion/Experience:

Overall, Ralph and I would give our first shopping experience at Doggy In Wonderland, 4 paws up out of 4 paws.

Everyone that works there are beyond nice, they are quick to ship items out and always stay in contact with you. It makes for a great shopping experience. And I know that I will personally be going there to do some shopping for Ralph in the near future.

Giveaway!:

Doggy In Wonderland was also nice enough to supply us with a $50 giftcard to giveaway to one of you guys!

That way you and your pup can go ahead an have a shopping spree. :)

All you have to do is enter below in the Rafflecopter below, and we will announce the winner in 9 days when it picks a winner! So make sure to come back every day to enter so you have many chances to win!

How Ralph Became Ralph

Baby Ralph

One of the questions that I get asked a lot is how I came up with the name Ralph for Ralph. I suppose it’s not really a common dog name and the story of how he became Ralph is kind of random. Like, I literally came up with the name while going to take out the trash at my apartment.

Ralph was going to be the first dog that I was going to ever own, and when getting my first dog I wanted to go to the shelter to find a pet first. After a look around, I found an adorable mini poodle. I spent just a little bit of time with him and I thought for sure he was the dog for me.

After filling out the application I received a call saying that my application had gone through and I was approved to get myself an adorable poodle! Right after hearing that I ran to the pet store and bought toys, treats, a bed, and a bunch of other goodies to prepare myself for my new furry friend.

Unfortunately, I received a call later that day saying that the owners had found and picked up their poodle and that I would no longer be able to come and pick him up. Of course I was totally bummed when I heard that news, but looking back now I am super glad the owners were able to find their dog.

I had become pretty attached to the idea of getting a poodle and there were none in any of the shelters in my area, so I went and found a breeder. Once I found one that had an adorable little toy/teacup poodle I set up a time that I could go ahead and get him. And at this point, I still had no name for this poodle.

Look at how tiny Ralphie was. Ohmygosh.

For those of you who don’t know, I have a major obsession with fashion. I used to aspire to be in fashion somehow and I still dream of sitting front row at a #NYFW show one day. I don’t know why, but I just always have and always will have a love for fashion.

Anywho, since I knew that I loved fashion, I wanted to name my dog after a designer. Unfortunately most of the men fashion designer names all sounded so overused or really silly. Until I was walking down my apartment hall to the trash chute and thought of Ralph Lauren.

Ralph Lauren actually uses the label RL on a few of his pieces and that’s when I knew I had to name my poodle Ralph, because my last name starts with an L so I was like “Omg, he can even go by the RL nickname!” It seemed perfect to me, so that’s what I decided to name my soon to be poodle.

And for a while I did actually call him RL, but as Ralph and I bonded he has quickly gotten a million other nicknames. Monkey, Pumpkin, Boo, Cutie Pootie, Ralphie, the list could go on and on.

But that’s basically how Ralph became Ralph! It’s kind of a weird way to come up with a dog name, but I guess taking out the trash just inspired me that night, haha.

I am interested to know how your furry friends got their names, let us know below!

Also stayed tuned for an ah-mazing giveaway tomorrow. ;)

BarkWorld 2013 Recap!

Like always, I am a tad late on posting my recap for conferences, but in my defense, I have been sick for the past week. I never realized how hard it was to type/think when you like can’t breath. Sinus infections are the worst, but thankfully I am all better now.

Before I get into my actual recap about BarkWorld, I must say that I was really excited to go to Atlanta and part of me hoped I would like run into a Real Housewife or like a cast member from The Walking Dead just casually walking the streets of Atlanta, but yeah that didn’t happen, haha. Regardless, the city looked super pretty and everyone in Atlanta was very nice to Ralph and I.

Overall Impression:

I guess my overall opinion of BarkWorld was that the set up was kind of like un organized? I mean, it wasn’t, but like you know that feeling you get whenever you go somewhere and it just feels cluttered and weird? Yeah, that was the feeling I got every morning going to BarkWorld. The booths, food, and main room were all in the same hallway so it was just like a lot of people in one area.

Plus there were a few other conferences going on so it was just a lot of people in one area, at least it felt that way to me.

Also, can I take a moment to talk about the random elevator encounters I had? Half the people couldn’t stop laughing at the fact that Ralph has a blog.

The other conference goers were also so amazed at the fact pet blogging is so big that their is a conference for it. It was funny.

Classes/Sessions:

The classes at BarkWorld were pretty basic. Which isn’t a bad thing, but the ones I attended, I really couldn’t connect with them or give my full attention the speaker. Instead, I found myself checking emails, writing posts for this blog, or tweeting. I always go into any conference or event with the mindset that if I can learn one new thing that can benefit me it was worthwhile.

Unfortunately I didn’t learn anything new from any of the classes. It was just pretty much the same thing I have heard at other conferences I have attended. So I would really love to see BarkWorld bring some creative spin on social media type of talks/classes to BarkWorld next year. If that makes sense?

I dunno. I just wish that the classes had more appeal to them and that there were some more advance classes. Or had more speakers like Dino Dogan, like after I heard him speak at BlogPaws, I kind of wish more speakers at conferences were more like that. Maybe my expectations for speakers at conferences are too high, I’m not sure.

I will say  that Matt Silverman did a wonderful job on his keynote though! I went and I definitely enjoyed it, he is really knowledgeable about the internet and I was glad that I got to hear his keynote and speak with him. And even though he talks about how cute cats are, (dogs are obviously cuter, am I right? Or am I right?) he is still a pretty cool guy.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I think the thing I got the most out of at BarkWorld was the networking with other brands and being able to talk to all the other bloggers. To me all of that made the conference worth while, and I would recommend anyone who wants to go to a smaller event and have some one on one time with some awesome brands, I would highly suggest going to BarkWorld. I personally think it is really great for networking.

So all in all I really enjoyed my time at BarkWorld and I am very thankful that Petco sponsored me.

With all that being said, Ralph and I would give BarkWorld 2 paws up out of 4 paws. It was fun and the networking was really good, but like we said, we felt the classes were a little lacking.

Monthly Favorites – August Edition

Can you guys believe that the month of August is over and we are now moving into the September? This year has seriously just flown right by, my goodness!

1. Sleepypod Yummy Bowls:

For those of you all who have been reading this blog from the get go, you would know that Ralph is like super particular about pretty much everything, bowls included. So I bought these on a whim, hoping he would like them and he actually does. He eats and drinks out of them just fine (they don’t freak him out) and they are super easy to travel with.

Ralph and I have always loved pretty much everything from Sleepypod though. They are like experts when it comes to making products for dogs to travel with.

The Honest Kitchen Quickies:

This was something that I didn’t think Ralph would actually like but he does. Honest Kitchen came out with these and they are high protein, low carb, pure fish treats that only have 1.1 calories.

I didn’t think Ralph would actually enjoy fish, but he really, really, really loves it! Honestly these have become a quick favorite for him and his tail starts wagging right when I pick up the container for these goodies. I mean, I have never seen him want any treat more then he has with these.

I should mention that these were something that were in our BarkWorld goodie bag (Ralph sniffed these out specifically, haha) so they haven’t actually come out yet. On the Honest Kitchen website they said that they will start selling them on September 3rd. I know, I will be buying some more.

Latex Toys:

I have no idea who makes these toys, but I purchased the basketball playing one for Ralph, because he loves latex toys. I had no idea that this was one of those toys that had that obnoxious squeak that sounds like something is dying when you even touch it.

With that being said, Ralph adores this toy and will literally go around the house squeaking it non stop. Me on the other hand? I am waiting for when I get a chance to hide it somewhere in the toy box. ;)

Zuke’s Z-Bones:

Pretty sure I could bring home almost anything from Zuke’s and Ralph would love it, haha.

That being said, he used to kind of like the carrot Z-Bones by Zuke’s, so I thought I would buy him a pack this month and he has seriously become addicted to them. So if you all are looking for a really good dental chew for your dog, Ralph and I totally recommend these.

Side note, do any of your dogs ever hide these types of dental bones in places and then make you play like hide and seek with it? Or is that just Ralph?

613423824261C

CocoTherapy Fruit Crunch:

I wasn’t really sure if Ralph was going to enjoy this product when I purchased it, simply because I’ve never really given him any sort of fruit before. But he actually really loves this stuff! The blueberries that are in the mix are his personal favorite and he loves getting a piece or two of the fruit in the morning after he goes on a walk or to go potty.

fruitcrunch_img

Happy Tails Flea The Scene:

This is more of a personal favorite of mine rather then Ralph’s, but I’m sure he’s glad he doesn’t have to deal with any pesky bugs.

The Flea The Scene Spray from Happy Tails is basically  a “skin soothing Insect Spray with Sunscreen alleviates itchy and irritated skin; repels fleas, ticks and mosquitoes; and protects against the sun’s harmful rays. Contains no pesticides or poisons and is perfectly safe if licked off.”

So far it has done just that and Ralph doesn’t get irritated by it or bother by it when I put it on him.

What about you and your furbabies? Was there a product, toy or treat they just couldn’t get enough of? Let us know!

Our 5 Favorite Doggie Instagram Accounts

For some reason Instagram has kind of just become my little addiction. I check it along with Twitter whenever I wake up every morning and I have found some pretty adorable Doggie Instagram’s that I knew I had to share with you all.

1. Manny The Frenchie - Is there any explanation needed as to why I love this Instagram account? Manny is too cute for words and I love seeing the pictures that are posted of him every day.

5. riobluebostonterrier- Rion is an adorable Boston Terrier who seriously has some of the best facial expressions. I don’t know how they can catch her making these face’s, but I for one am not complaining about it.

BarkWorld Day One – Speed Dating Fun!

Guess who made there way to Atlanta a few days ago, Ralph & I! We were super excited to be in Atlanta for BarkWorld, and also super duper tired after our first day!

bark-world-logo-high-res

Our trip to Atlanta wasn’t that bad (we drove). The ride was totally going well, up until we may have made a wrong turn and our GPS may have re-routed us in not the best area. Oopsie. Thankfully we made it to the hotel and everyone that works here at the Westin are super duper nice. Like I have been to a lot of hotels and by far this Westin was one of the best.

After we checked into the hotel, all we really did for greater portion of the day was hang out in our room, because we were both tired. I did take Ralph on a few walks downtown, which he totally loved! He’s definitely a city dog, and he was prancing the streets of Atlanta.

After some walks and down time we went to register and then went back to the hotel room so I could go ahead and get ready for the Speed Dating Event that we were going to that evening.

I have never done any Speed Dating of any sorts, so I was a tad nervous and not really sure what to expect from the event. But it seemed like a lot of fun so I was totally excited about.

The set up for The Speed Dating was really well thought out, and I think it worked really well, because the tables were far enough apart so we didn’t have to hear what everyone else was saying. It was also a really neat way to meet companies, and even neater to see that some of the companies like did research on Ralph and I. I dunno, I just found that kind of cool.

I also have to take time to say that I am super grateful of Ashley from Ashley Ella Design who put together an ah-mazing media kit for us to give out to companies that we met with during Speed Dating and the weekend. It ended up looking super nice and everyone loved them. So thank you to Ashley again for doing that for us!

Screen Shot 2013-08-26 at 2.06.57 PM

A little preview of our media kit!

The only downside of the Speed Dating is that time seemed to fly so quickly! Like I had no idea that six minutes went by as quickly as it did! But everyone at BarkWorld, actually gave us extra time to talk with the companies after so if we did want to spend more time talking to a company, we had that time.

But overall I really enjoyed the Speed Dating Event! I think it was a super fun and creative way to be able to connect with other companies. I would really love to attend another event like that again! Also the bartender at the event had like the best personality ever. Granted it was his “show” at the bar, he dubbed Ralph and I fabulous, haha.

After Speed Dating and the little after Speed Dating party , it was time for the opening reception, which I actually ended up missing, because I was talking to someone, but I was able to walk by towards the end of it, and it looked like a whole bunch of fun!

So if I had to rate Ralph and I’s first day at BarkWorld, we would give it 4 paws out of 4 paws! It was a lot of networking and fun, and I was glad and grateful that I was able to participate in the Speed Dating event.

Thanks again Petco for sponsoring us to come to BarkWorld! I can’t wait to share with you all about the rest of Ralph’s and I adventures in Atlanta and at BarkWorld.

*These posts were to go up at BarkWorld, but my hosting for the blog kept going in and out so I was not able to post things, but I still wanted them to go up. Sorry for the delay!*
